Mounting the T51-RSL

The T51-RSL is connected to a T51 by plugging together the 12 pin IO connectors on each board and using 1 inch spacers between them. Included with the T51-RSL is a set of 6-32 threaded spacers and screws that allow this to be easily done, and to mount both boards to a panel or enclosure.

The 1 inch spacers can be installed in either direction so that the screw thread is sticking out of either the T51 or the T51-RSL. This allows the two boards to be connected together and to be mounted facing either toward or away from the mounting surface. The only other hardware that is needed is four more 6-32 screws with heads matching your panel and application.

Electrical Specifications

Operating environment:
Temperature: 0-50 degrees Celsius (32-122 Fahrenheit)
Humidity: 30 to 80 percent, non-condensing

LED current: 15 ma at 5 volts
Relay coil voltage: 12 to 16 volts
Relay coil current: 30 ma at 12 volts nominal
Relay contact voltage: 30 volts DC or AC maximum
Relay contact current: 10 amps
Manufacturerer's type: Omron G5LE-14 series or equivalent

Using the T51-RSL

Terminal block TB1 on the T51-RSL can be used to power both the T51-RSL and the T51, rather than using the power connector on the T51. Refer to the T51 Reference Manual for the power supply requirements for that board.

The relay on the T51-RSL is activated when P3.7 on the T51 is brought "low". This prevents the relay from activating when the microcontroller on the T51 is first turned on, since the power-up state of all of the port bits is "high". The LED's on the T51-RSL are turned on when the T51 IO pins they are connected to are brought "low".

Although eight LEDS are available on the T51-RSL it should be noted that the microcontroller on the T51 should not be used to operate all eight LED's at once! Refer to the T51 Reference Manual for more information about this restriction.

Since the LED's and the individual switches on the T51-RSL DIP switch are both connected to the IO pins of the microcontroller on the T51, closing one of the switches will also turn on the LED connected to that pin. In this case it is acceptable for any number of the LED's to be turned on, because the current operating them is going through the switches and not through the microcontroller.

With this sharing of the IO pins by the switches and LED's, it is possible to use some of the LED's as status indicators, and to use the remaining switches to read program configuration or setup information.
